The Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate is continuing its relentless campaign against drug traffickers. To protect the youth from the vicious clutches of drugs and to uproot the roots of crime, the Detective Department (DD) of the Commissionerate is carrying out successful operations one after another. Continuing this trend, the DD branch of the Asansol-Durgapur police achieved another major success on the night of August 30, 2026.
According to police sources, detectives received secret and reliable information on that night that a huge quantity of drugs was being smuggled in a car within the Asansol area. Based on this information, a special naka-checking and surveillance team of the DD conducted an operation near the Rai Maidan area on Lalganj-Jubilee Road under the Asansol (North) police station. As soon as the suspected Maruti Suzuki Ertiga car arrived there, the police intercepted it and started searching.
Upon searching the vehicle, more than 600 grams of 'brown sugar', an extremely expensive and notorious narcotic substance with a massive black market value, was recovered. Two traffickers involved in this incident were arrested red-handed at the scene by the police. The car used for transporting the drugs and some documents have been seized.
Following initial interrogation, a specific case has been registered against the detainees under the relevant sections of the NDPS (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. The police commissionerate stated that a rigorous investigation has been launched to find out the primary source of this illegal drug trade, where the drug consignment was coming from, and whether any other major syndicate or supply chain within the state or the country is involved. The conscious citizenry has appreciated this strict stance of the Asansol-Durgapur police against drugs.
