The police have achieved a major success in a cyber fraud case. A notorious youth has been arrested from Durgapur, whom investigators have identified as the 'mastermind' of this syndicate. The arrested person has been identified as Sonu Mondal. According to police sources, maintaining direct ties with the infamous Jamtara gang, he was operating a powerful cyber fraud network in Durgapur and its surrounding areas.
According to the initial investigation by the police, Sonu, a resident of the Durgapur township area, used to lure ordinary people with financial incentives and the promise of easy money, thereby involving several young men and women in this illegal syndicate. Subsequently, through them, cyber fraud activities such as stealing money from ordinary people's bank accounts were primarily carried out. For a long time, this syndicate had been evading the police and administration using various tactics.
Acting on a specific tip-off from a confidential source, the police from Prantik Outpost conducted a sudden raid on Sonu's house late on Sunday night. During the search, multiple laptops, mobile phones, and other high-tech electronic gadgets were seized from his house. Forensic examination of all these devices is being arranged, from which investigators expect many more sensational facts to emerge.
On Monday, the arrested Sonu Mondal was produced before the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Court amidst tight security. After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge remanded him to two days of police custody.
