Own Correspondent: As a precautionary measure in view of the upcoming assembly elections and the recent bomb-threat email, Kolkata Police started extensive street checking across the city from Thursday evening onwards. This search operation is conducted simultaneously at a total of 109 important points in ten divisions of the city. Kolkata Police Commission, a well-respected government, visited several sensitive areas including Dharamtala. He said that this police checking would be carried out under the leadership of senior officers at various important junctions and streets of the city on the basis of 'surprise visit' without any fixed time limit. Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner and ODIs of various police stations will directly take part in the search operation on the streets. In the last few days, the administration has been alerted regarding the arrival of bomb threat e-mails in the court, post office and passport office. However, no concrete sources have been found so far, the police said. Special Police Force (STF) has started investigation regarding the threat email received by the court. A specific complaint has been filed in this regard at Hair Street police station. During police checking, the car is stopped and the documents are checked. Especially the helmets, licenses and necessary documents of motorcyclists are being checked as well as being interrogated in suspicious circumstances. Police Commissioner claims, "Kalkata Police is fully alert. Such search operations will be strengthened to ensure the safety of the common people and to increase confidence in the police." It has been informed by the administration that large scale checking may happen suddenly at any time on important roads. Police side has appealed to citizens for cooperation
