Apart from Kolkata, Asansol, Durgapur, Baharampur, Siuri, Rampurhat and Alipore courts have also received threatening emails. High alert has been issued in five districts including the capital.
According to Asansol District Judge Dev Prasad Nath, he received the email around 11:30 am, warning of an explosion in the court complex at 1 pm. As soon as the email was received, judicial work was immediately postponed and the court premises were evacuated. This information was given to Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate.
As soon as the information was received, the Deputy Commissioner of Police reached the spot with heavy police force and the entire premises was surrounded. Entry of common people has been banned. Intensive searches of court rooms and judges' chambers are being conducted by bomb squad and dog squad.
According to sources, the threatening email has been sent in Bengali language. Cyber cell has started investigation to find out the email ID and technical source. At present, there has been no official confirmation of the recovery of explosives from any court premises.
The police administration has appealed to the people not to pay attention to rumors and maintain peace. The situation is currently said to be under control, but the security agencies are fully alert.
