Durgāpur: Bakyeya Vajri Kya Uttal Fantori Chatmaddar On Thursday morning, workers broke into protest in front of the gate of Jathagarhiya Paper Mill demanding unpaid wages. Protests continued around the factory authorities, due to which temporary tension spread throughout the factory. This morning many workers started protesting by closing the main gate of the factory. Workers complain that they have not been paid wages for almost two and a half months. Not only this, due to recent change of contractor, their work has been suspended without any prior notice. The workers complained that they were in extreme financial crisis due to wages being arrears for a long time. The situation became heated and representatives of the local labor union reached the spot. He assured to be by the workers' side and told them to discuss with the authorities to get their just claims. This assurance from the labor organization brought the situation under some control.
The protesting workers said that if their wages are not immediately cleared and arrangements are not made to send them back to work, they will have to go on a bigger agitation in the coming days.
Assuring to be with the workers, district TMC co-president Uttam Mukhopa Dhaya said, the motherland government of the state is with the workers. The price of everything is increasing. Even then, if wages are not paid to the workers for two and a half months, then there will be a problem. But why wages are not being paid, we are looking into that matter.
However, the factory authorities do not want to comment on this matter.
