Bankura: Rajib Ghoshall, once an influential Trinamool Congress leader and a prominent face of the youth organization, has been arrested on serious charges of embezzling lakhs of rupees from ordinary people in the name of securing jobs. In the past, there has been widespread discussion in political circles that he had access to the inner circle of the party's all-India general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee. On Wednesday, the arrested Trinamool leader was produced before the Bankura District Court. On the way to the court, ordinary people in the Beliatore police station area erupted in protests and shouted 'thief, thief' slogans targeting him. This incident has caused a significant stir in the politics of the Junglemahal region.
According to local sources, Rajib Ghoshall was once known as a very powerful Trinamool leader in the Beliatore area of Bankura. When a separate youth organization was formed within the Trinamool Congress, Rajib was entrusted with the responsibility of the Bankura District Youth Trinamool President in its initial phase. Through this connection, he came into the very close circle of the then-all-in-all of Youth Trinamool and current National General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee. His dominance in district political meetings and gatherings was noticeable.
However, after moving away from the center of power, one corruption allegation after another began to surface against him. According to police sources, a few months ago, a local resident of the Beliatore police station area appeared at the police station and filed a written complaint. The complaint stated that another local Trinamool leader, Pallab Pandey, had embezzled Rs 4,20,000 promising him a job at the Barjora Block Health Centre. However, a long time passed after taking the money, but no job materialized. Instead, when he repeatedly asked for his money back, he was threatened in various ways, the complaint alleged.
Based on that complaint, the Beliatore police station initiated an investigation. The police first arrested Pallab Pandey. After taking him into custody and interrogating him for a long time, Rajib Ghoshall's name came up. The police learned that Rajib Ghoshall was the mastermind behind this entire corruption. Subsequently, based on intelligence, the police arrested Rajib Ghoshall from Kolkata last night. This morning, he was produced before the Bankura District Court under tight security. The anger and protests of the locals outside the court prove how much resentment has accumulated among the general public regarding such corruption.
