Death of contract worker on duty, protest at Burnpur's IISCO tunnel gate demanding compensation and job

Nirbhik Bangla, Asansol Tension erupted in the Isco Tunnel Gate area of Burnpur on Tuesday over the sudden death of a contractual laborer while on duty. The worker's family and relatives staged a protest, placing his body on display, demanding compensation, financial assistance for the last rites, and a job for a family member. The deceased laborer was identified as Nityagopal Dhibar. His family claimed that Nityagopal left behind small children and insisted that a dependent be given a job, considering the future of his family. Nityagopal's grandfather, Gosthogopal Dhibar, stated that on Tuesday morning, like every other day, Nityagopal reported for work. After punching in, he began his duties but soon fell ill. The matter was reported to higher authorities, and he was rushed to ESI Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. After bringing the body back to the tunnel gate from the hospital, family members began their protest with the body. They alleged that while authorities verbally assured them of a job, they refused to provide any written commitment. The family warned that their agitation would continue until they received written assurances regarding adequate compensation, a job for a dependent, and financial support for the last rites. Meanwhile, an Isco official stated that Nityagopal Dhibar was a contractual laborer. His contracting company stood by the family, and representatives were present at the hospital. The company assured full support to the family. However, the official noted that the demand for a job for a dependent would be evaluated later based on relevant rules regarding feasibility and policy compliance.
