Nadia: Sridham Mayapur, the main global headquarters of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), celebrated the auspicious appearance day of Srimati Radharani, known as 'Radhashtami Mahotsav', with great grandeur and a deeply spiritual and solemn atmosphere. Not only in Mayapur, but across all ISKCON branch centers worldwide, the day was observed simultaneously with supreme devotion and sincerity. On the occasion of Radhashtami, thousands of pilgrims and devout followers from every corner of the country and abroad flocked to the main ISKCON temple in Mayapur. This grand gathering of devotees, transcending caste, creed, religion, and lineage, created an unprecedented festive atmosphere throughout the Mayapur ISKCON campus. To ensure the festival concluded smoothly, peacefully, and without any hassle, extensive and strict security arrangements were made by the temple authorities and the local administration.
Highlighting the significance of the festival, Mayapur ISKCON Public Relations Officer Rasik Gauranga Das delivered a spiritual message to the assembled devotees through the chanting of Radharani's praises and special verses. He reminded the devotees that approximately 5,253 years ago, Srimati Radharani descended upon the earthly realm in holy Raval. Maintaining that eternal tradition and devotion flowing down through the ages, this grand celebration has been organized in Mayapur, which brings special joy to the hearts of devotees every year.
Just as Lord Sri Krishna's appearance day is observed with utmost reverence as Janmashtami in Hindu Sanatan Dharma, the appearance day of Srimati Radharani—Lord Krishna's pleasure potency and supreme energy—has been celebrated worldwide with great dignity as 'Radhashtami'. Reminding everyone of the spiritual oneness of Radha and Krishna, Rasik Gauranga Das mentioned that Radha and Krishna are essentially one in two and two in one—both equal and inseparable. From a spiritual philosophical perspective, they are "one soul in two bodies". According to Sanatan theology, whenever the Lord descends to the earthly realm, He brings His eternal eternal consort with Him; just as Mother Sita Devi accompanied Lord Sri Ramachandra in the Treta Yuga, and Srimati Radharani Devi appeared as the principal consort of Lord Sri Krishna in the Dvapara Yuga.
Srimati Radharani's core philosophy of life is rooted in her causeless devotion, supreme selfless love, and desireless affection. While Sri Krishna's Janmashtami is celebrated with much grandeur among the general public, Radhashtami is comparatively simpler, yet its glory in places of pilgrimage is unique. However, a wonderful exception to this rule is seen in Mayapur ISKCON in Nadia and the ancient, traditional mathas and temples of Nabadwip. Alongside Mayapur ISKCON, all ISKCON temples worldwide and various Gaudiya Vaishnava temples in Nabadwip are also celebrating this Radhashtami Mahotsav simultaneously with great pomp and splendor, which stands as a shining example of Vaishnava culture.
