The 46th Durga Puja of Asansol's traditional and renowned Gandhinagar Puja Committee has created a sensation across the region with an extraordinary and deeply significant theme this year. Thousands of visitors from far and wide are flocking every day to see this magnificent and elaborate pandal, built at a cost of around Rs 75 lakh, based on the philosophical thought of 'Birth, Life and Death'. On one hand, this grand setup showcases Rajasthan's colorful culture, traditional folk art, and beautiful puppet dance, while on the other, it presents the subtlest truths of human life in a highly artistic and psychological manner, leaving a profound impact on art lovers.

Somika Tiwari Upadhyay, one of the main organizers of the puja committee, stated that the objective of this year's central theme is to introduce the general public to a miraculous yet realistic journey starting from the very origin of human life—birth—leading through an active life, spirituality, and ultimately to the path of salvation or eternal peace. Every corner of the pandal meticulously and metaphorically depicts specific chapters of life, which is not only pleasing to the eye but also evokes deep thoughts among visitors, prompting them to rediscover the meaning of life.

The initial section of the pandal depicts that vibrant and energetic phase of human life when a person is at the peak of physical and mental strength. During this stage of youth, people possess a strong desire to earn money, a craving for fame and prestige in society or the workplace, a sense of pride, and irrepressible enthusiasm. According to the organizers, during this phase of life, people consider material comfort to be their everything and make the demonstration of their power life's primary goal. This state has been vividly portrayed in the pandal's craftsmanship, serving as an artistic reflection of our familiar reality.

However, life does not stop. With advancing age, a far-reaching change occurs in a person's perspective. This transition is neatly highlighted in the next section of the pandal. In the words of Somika Tiwari Upadhyay, generally when people reach the age bracket of 35 to 45 years, their minds begin to calm down beyond worldly illusions. Moving away from external noise and a life of consumerism, people then lean toward self-reflection, worship of God, and the glory of sacrifice. This spiritual elevation is made visible in this section of the pandal, where people seek mental peace and spiritual liberation over material achievements.

The most attractive and captivating part of this philosophy is the 'Mannat ka Kua' (Wishing Well). Here, the immense faith, hopes, aspirations, and secret prayers of ordinary people have been given symbolic form. Along with this, an eternal message is conveyed to move toward ultimate liberation or salvation by casting aside jealousy, anger, greed, attachment, and all worldly attractions. This long and cyclical journey from birth to death is human life, which offers every individual an opportunity for deep self-realization and makes them aware of the transience of life.

Not only from a visual standpoint, but the Gandhinagar Puja Committee has also demonstrated great skill regarding the safety and discipline of visitors. The entire pandal premises are under strict CCTV monitoring to prevent any untoward situation. This massive event is conducted by maintaining close coordination with the local administration and Police Commissionerate, following all their guidelines to the letter. Special and strict attention is paid to ensure that no unpleasant incident occurs during the festival days and that the general public can seek the blessings of Goddess Durga in complete peace and comfort.

Another special and commendable aspect of this puja is the active and leading role of women. Somika Tiwari Upadhyay proudly stated that as the main driving force of this committee, women are working shoulder to shoulder alongside men. Young women and adult women are efficiently handling various crucial responsibilities, ranging from volunteering to management. This spontaneous participation of female power in this sacred festival of Debi Paksha has rendered the event even more meaningful and significant.

Through the long-term planning and tireless hard work of Somika Devi and her husband Rahul Upadhyay, this event by the Gandhinagar Puja Committee touches new heights every year. Preparation for this grand festival is undertaken keeping in mind specific planning throughout the year, pandal design, budget allocation, and social responsibility. Entering its 46th year, this Durga Puja is today not just a religious event or a joyful festival, but has carved a permanent and glorious place on Asansol's cultural map as a wonderful and unforgettable blend of art, culture, philosophy, and life values.
