Asansol: To keep the industrial city of Asansol cleaner, more beautiful, and pollution-free, the Asansol Municipal Corporation has now launched a special and strict cleanliness campaign. For a long time, a tendency to litter indiscriminately in various alleys and crowded areas of the city had been observed. To tackle this situation and improve the overall environmental quality of the city, top officials of the municipal corporation inspected various areas of the city in person. Following the inspection, the municipal authorities have decided to take a series of strict measures regarding waste management.
Recently, an alarming picture emerged during the inspection by the municipal corporation. Despite the presence of designated dustbins or waste collection receptacles around various important public places, market areas, and commercial hubs of the city, common people and business owners are violating rules by throwing garbage everywhere. As a result, alongside disrupting the city's drainage system, there is also a growing fear of outbreaks of water-borne and mosquito-borne diseases like dengue or malaria. To combat this situation, proactive measures have been initiated by the municipal corporation, and over 100 'garbage vulnerable points' or high-risk waste accumulation zones have been identified across the city. Municipal sanitation workers have already started the work of cleaning those garbage-laden spots on a war footing.
Special emphasis is being placed on raising awareness among ordinary citizens in this initiative to keep the city garbage-free. The municipal corporation has appealed to every citizen of the city to always use designated dustbins. Specific guidelines have also been issued, particularly emphasizing that dry and wet waste or garbage must always be collected in separate containers. Citizens have also been strongly advised to properly hand over household waste at fixed times every day either to the municipal waste collection vehicles or to the area's designated 'Nirmal Bandhus' (cleanliness volunteers).
Not only ordinary citizens, but strict rules have also been implemented for commercial establishments. According to the new guidelines of the Asansol Municipal Corporation, every shop, shopping mall, and commercial institution must compulsorily keep its own dustbin. If additional dustbins are required in any commercial area, business owners can apply to the municipal corporation. It has been assured that after reviewing the applications, the municipal corporation itself will supply the necessary dustbins to those areas.
In the initial phase, maximum emphasis is being given to raising awareness and publicity by the municipal corporation. However, the municipal corporation has clearly stated that if anyone continues to litter indiscriminately by violating these instructions even after repeated warnings, strict legal action, including financial penalties, will be taken against them in the coming days.
Overall, a sincere appeal has been made to citizens from all walks of life for their full cooperation in this novel and timely initiative by the municipal corporation to protect Asansol's environment and give the city an ideal and clean appearance.
