Nirbhik Bangla, Goalpokhar: Extreme tension erupted in the Goalpokhar assembly area surrounding the protest against Rakibul Hussain, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) observer for North Dinajpur district and MLA from Samaguri assembly constituency in Assam. A section of local Congress Sevadal workers alleged that this leader, holding a vital responsibility in the party, completely ignored the opinions of the workers. The disgruntled Sevadal workers even raised serious allegations against him regarding insulting the Islamic religion. However, no immediate response was available from the accused Congress leader Rakibul Hussain regarding these allegations.
The incident began when Rakibul Hussain arrived to attend the Congress 'Sangathan Srijan' programme in the Barbilla area of Goalpokhar. According to local sources, he participated in a programme organized by local Congress leader Nasim Madus Ehsan there. The main complaint of the disgruntled Sevadal workers was that they were deliberately prevented from joining that specific programme. According to the pre-scheduled itinerary, a special meeting between the central observer and the Sevadal workers was supposed to be held later.
The situation turned complicated when, while on his way to Karandighi, he stopped at the Biprit area and started talking to some workers. At that time, angry Sevadal workers gathered there and demanded an explanation from him regarding the earlier incident. Within moments, the situation heated up and the workers began to surround and protest against him. It is alleged that seeing the situation worsening, observer Rakibul Hussain quickly left the place facing the anger of the Sevadal.
Following this incident, Nurul Islam, the president of the Goalpokhar Block Congress Sevadal Committee, expressed deep dissatisfaction and stated that such behavior from a responsible leader of the party is utterly unexpected. He warned that a formal complaint detailing the entire incident would be lodged with the higher leadership of the Congress. Political analysts believe that this incident has once again brought the long-standing anger and factionalism within the North Dinajpur district Congress out into the open. Especially, this incident is a glaring proof that the distance between the mainstream party organization and the Sevadal is increasing day by day. Statements from Sevadal worker Mohammad Mustak, Sevadal Block President Nurul Islam, and PCC Observer Subrata Dutta have already come to light regarding this matter, making the situation even more complicated.
