Asansol, West Bengal — Just before the assembly elections 2026, the state's emerging political party AJUP has suffered a major setback. AJUP candidate from Kulti assembly constituency of Asansol, Tahir Khan has suddenly left the electoral field and joined Trinamool Congress (TMC). Tahir Khan assumed membership of the party in the presence of senior Trinamool leader and Asansol North candidate Malay Ghatak. His decision has not only weakened AJUP's election strategy, but has also raised questions on the leadership and future plans of party chief Humayun Kabir. It is being told that this step of Tahir Khan can prove to be a big political loss for AJUP, especially at a time when the party was trying to establish itself as the third major force in the state. Clarifying his decision, Tahir Khan said that he had taken the decision to contest elections from AJUP in a hurry, which he is now rectifying. He made it clear that he will now work with full devotion with the Trinamool Congress and move forward under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee and the Malay component. However, no official response has come so far from AJUP chief Humayun Kabir on this entire incident, due to which the market of discussions is hot in the political circles.
