Agnimitra Paul on a visit to CMERI in Durgapur, initiative to use central technology in waste management

Nirbheek Bengali, Durgapur: Various municipal councils of the state have taken the initiative to use CEMRI technology to develop modern solid waste management, said the state city and urban development minister Agnimitra Pal. On Friday, when he visited CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMRI) in Durgapur, he informed about this plan. The Minister said, through the technology developed by CMERI, it is possible to produce fuel from plastic waste, fertilizer from organic waste, alternative fuel from dry leaves and bricks from construction waste at low cost. Using this technology, various municipalities of the state are taking initiatives to process the waste accumulated over a long time in a scientific manner. Agnimitra Pal said, the state government will provide the required land for this project and CEMRI will provide technical support and expertise. He claims that by setting up a modern waste processing centre, there will be a reduction in environmental pollution through waste separation and recycling and new possibilities of revenue generation will be created. During the visit, the Minister said that in the past the state government did not give due importance to the research and technology of the Centre. His claim was to make people understand that the Center was depriving Bengali. At present, initiatives have been taken to implement developmental projects through coordination between the Center and the States, he commented. In his words, “Now everyone will understand why I said double engine government is necessary.” The Minister further said that a letter has already been sent to CMRII on behalf of the Urban Development Department. A plan has been taken to use this technology in solid waste management and long-standing waste disposal projects in various areas of the state.
