Durgapur: Arjunpur area of Durgapur heated up over allegations of inhumanity in the name of eviction. With the construction of a new unit and hospital in the DTPS area of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) starting, DVC has started a campaign to vacate its land from the evicted people. On Friday morning, an eviction drive was suddenly launched at the tiled house of China Bauri, a long-time resident of DVC land. It is alleged that they were forcefully thrown out of their house early in the morning and their furniture was scattered. Then their tiled house was demolished. The Trinamool Congress leadership of the area claims that China Bauri is suffering from cancer. Even in such a situation, his house was demolished without showing any humanity. The Trinamool leadership expressed strong anger against the DVC, terming the incident as 'inhuman'. Former councilor Arvind Nandi said, "Our agitation will continue until this incident is resolved properly." However, Damodar Valley Corporation has denied these allegations. Amit Modi, senior general manager, DVC, said, "The family was illegally occupying our land for a long time. Despite being given notices several times, they did not vacate the land. That is why the eviction action was initiated. During the action, an attempt was made to attack our workers and they threatened to kill us by showing sharp weapons. We will approach the police regarding this." This incident created a lot of tension in the area. Police were deployed to control the situation. There is a fear that this incident will further increase political tension on the issue of eviction and humanity.
