Nirbhik Bangla, Durgapur: After a long eight years, the Durgapur court has given an important verdict in the much-discussed Shilpa Agarwal murder case. On Tuesday, Additional District Judge (Second) Prashant Choudhury sentenced the accused bank manager Rajeev Kumar to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000.
The incident occurred on February 15, 2018. The police recovered an abandoned suitcase in front of the lift at the Rupali Apartment in Benachiti, Durgapur. When the suitcase was opened, the decomposed body of a young woman was found. Later, the identity of the deceased was revealed to be Shilpa Agarwal (28), a resident of Mejia in Bankura. She was working as a 'Bank Mitra' at the State Bank's Mejia branch. Rajeev Kumar was the manager of that branch.
The investigation revealed that Shilpa had been missing for several days before the incident. She was last in touch with her family over the phone, after which she was not found. During the investigation, Rajeev Kumar was interrogated and later arrested by the police.
It is alleged that after killing Shilpa Agarwal, her body was hidden in the fridge. Later, to destroy evidence, the body was stuffed into a suitcase and thrown outside the apartment.
District Prosecutor Debabrata Sai said that the court has given this verdict based on all the information and evidence presented during the trial. The family of the deceased Shilpa Agarwal has expressed satisfaction with the court's verdict.
