Terrible fire at a scooter showroom in Panagarh, intense sensation in the area
Durgapur, September 1: The Panagarh bazar area of Durgapur witnessed a massive fire on Tuesday early morning. A fire suddenly broke out at a scooter showroom located on the ground floor of a three-story building adjacent to the Panagarh Darjeeling More. Within moments, the fierce flames engulfed the entire building. This tragic incident spread widespread tension and panic throughout the area.
According to local sources, the two-wheeler showroom was on the ground floor of the three-story building. A small children's school or kids' school was run on the first floor, and a family lived on the second floor. Around 5:00 AM on Tuesday, when local residents came out for their morning walk, they first noticed smoke and flames coming out of the building. Seeing the worsening situation, they immediately started shouting and woke up the people around. The fire department and the local Kanksa police station were informed.
By that time, however, the intensity of the fire had increased so much that all the scooters inside the showroom were burnt to ashes. According to locals, fortunately, since the incident happened early in the morning and the kids' school was closed, a major loss of life was avoided. Had the school been open, the situation could have been extremely terrifying, raising fears of a major accident. Moreover, the family living on the second floor managed to get out in time and are safe.
Upon receiving the news, the Kanksa police station force quickly rushed to the spot. Within a short time, two fire engines reached the spot and started working on a war footing. With nearly an hour and a half of relentless efforts by the firefighters, the fire was brought under control. However, by that time, all the valuable items and numerous scooters inside the showroom were completely gutted. The showroom authorities have not yet clearly stated the estimated financial loss caused by the fire.
It is primarily suspected that the fire originated from a short circuit. However, the fire department and forensic experts have started an investigation to find out the exact cause of this massive fire. Following the outbreak of such a fire early in the morning in a populated area, local residents have started raising new questions about safety.
