10 children die in a single day at Malda Medical College, Health Department seeks report

Malda: A tragic incident involving the death of 10 newborns on the same day has created a strong sensation at the Malda Medical College and Hospital. As this child mortality incident has come to light in the state, Swasthya Bhaban (State Health Department) has sprung into action. Considering the gravity of the matter, a comprehensive report has been immediately sought from the hospital authorities. According to medical college sources, this tragic incident occurred in the second week of August last. Later, the hospital authorities also acknowledged the matter. According to primary information, out of the 10 children who died that day, eight were brought to the medical college from outside in critical condition. That is, those eight children were born in some other rural hospital, block health center, or private nursing home. Primarily, doctors suspect that the deaths of the infants occurred due to severe respiratory distress, acute jaundice, and congenital heart complications. Regarding this, Malda Medical College Superintendent Prasenjit Bor stated that it is true that 10 children died in a single day at the medical college recently, but only two of them were born in this hospital. The remaining eight were referred and brought here from various places in extremely critical condition. He further stated that a report has been sought by Swasthya Bhaban right after the incident.
