The political atmosphere regarding voter list is getting heated in Durgapur, West Bengal. Congress workers demonstrated strongly on Thursday against SIR. During this, the protesters broke the gate of the SDO office of West Bardhaman Durgapur and entered inside and raised slogans. The situation became tense in the Divisional Ruler (SDO) office premises over allegations of deletion of names of eligible voters. Congress workers and supporters reached there in large numbers and started protesting. This movement was led by District Congress President Debesh Chakraborty. He alleged that in the name of voter list amendment, names of many valid voters have been removed. He says that the names of about 60 lakh voters are still in pending status, which has created uncertainty over their voting rights. Congress has demanded that this problem should be resolved soon and the eligible voters whose names have been removed should be included in the voter list again.
