Purulia: A 21-year-old young woman was allegedly brutally murdered by her boyfriend by having her throat slit, following complications in their romantic relationship and a subsequent intense dispute. This spine-chilling incident took place in Purulia district. What makes it even more tragic is that after the murder, the accused tried to destroy evidence by wrapping the dead body in plastic, tying it to the back of his motorcycle, and dumping it elsewhere. However, his attempts failed. Late at night, the youth was caught red-handed during a police naka-checking. This incident has sent shockwaves and a wave of grief throughout the entire area.
According to police sources, the arrested youth has been identified as Amit Kumar Mahato (23). He hails to Hurumda village under Baghmundi police station in Purulia. On the other hand, the deceased woman was Pritika Mahato (21). Her home is also in Burda village under the same Baghmundi police station. According to police and local sources, Amit was staying in a mess in the Tamna police station area of Purulia for higher education and preparation for various competitive exams. Meanwhile, Pritika was also staying in the same area and undergoing nursing training at an institution.
Initial investigations reveal that last Saturday, Pritika had gone to Amit's mess for some work or to meet him. At that time, a bitter altercation broke out between the two over some personal issue or relationship complications. When the argument reached its extreme, an enraged Amit allegedly attacked Pritika repeatedly with a sharp weapon and slit her throat, murdering her.
What is most sensational is that Amit hatched a gruesome plan to cover up the crime and dispose of the body. He wrapped Pritika's lifeless body in a large plastic packet and hoisted it onto the back of his motorcycle. Late that night, he was attempting to transport the body on his bike towards the Baghmundi-Balrampur road in Purulia. However, regular police naka-checking was underway at that time in front of the PPSP office. As police personnel stopped Amit's bike and began searching, the young woman's bloody body was recovered packed inside a polythene sack. The police immediately detained the youth and later arrested him.
Police's preliminary assumption is that Amit and Pritika had developed a deep romantic relationship over the past few years. They even studied at the same coaching center. However, their relationship had deteriorated recently, and distance had started to develop between them over various issues. It is believed that this relationship complexity and intense anger led to the commission of this heinous murder. Nevertheless, investigating officers are looking into whether there was any other motive or pre-planning behind the murder.
The arrested Amit Kumar Mahato was produced before the Purulia District Court on Sunday. Following the hearing there, the judge ordered 9 days of police custody for the accused. The police are now continuously interrogating the accused to recover the sharp weapon used in this brutal murder, reconstruct the exact sequence of events, and unravel the mystery of where he planned to take and dispose of the body.
