Nirbhik Bangla, Asansol, West Burdwan: A controversy has erupted over a helmet distribution program organized by the BJP Minority Cell in front of Chitra Cinema Hall in Asansol. During the program, complaints arose about prolonged traffic congestion on the road. Locals claim that distributing helmets on the road disrupted traffic flow, causing inconvenience to the general public for an extended period.
Some eyewitnesses allege that instead of raising awareness among motorcyclists without helmets, known party supporters were called to receive helmets. This led to dissatisfaction among some bikers and pedestrians. They argue that if road safety initiatives end up blocking roads, the purpose of such programs becomes questionable.
Several local residents have also raised concerns about the quality of the distributed helmets, claiming some might be substandard or counterfeit. However, no official investigation or confirmation from authorities has yet substantiated these allegations.
Questions have also been raised about the roles of Hirapur Traffic Guard In-Charge Amirul Rahman Khan and BJP MLA from Asansol North Krishnendu Mukherjee, who attended the event. So far, neither police, traffic authorities, nor organizers have issued any formal response regarding these matters.
Note: The allegations could not be independently verified. Statements from concerned parties will be published if received.
