BJP MLA Krishnendu Mukherjee gets emotional after having rakhis tied by sisters from the Kinnar (transgender) community
Special Rakhi Festival at Asansol's Rabindra Bhavan on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan — MLA assures standing by the sisters, ensuring their protection, and being with them in happiness and sorrow; sisters extend wishes for his long life and success
Nirbhik Bangla, Asansol: On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, BJP MLA from Asansol North Assembly Constituency, Krishnendu Mukherjee, sent out a bright message of social harmony, inclusion, and equality by celebrating the Rakhi festival with members of the Kinnar community. At this special event organized at Asansol's heritage Rabindra Bhavan, sisters from the Kinnar community enthusiastically tied rakhis on the MLA's wrist. Overwhelmed by this love and trust from the Kinnar sisters, MLA Krishnendu Mukherjee not only gave them the respect of sisters but also made a firm commitment to fulfill all responsibilities as a brother in ensuring their complete protection and establishment in the mainstream of society.
After the completion of this sacred Rakhi Bandhan ritual, members of the Kinnar community affectionately blessed MLA Krishnendu Mukherjee with a long life. Furthermore, they sincerely prayed to the Almighty for his continuous success, happiness, prosperity, and progress in his future political and personal life.
Expressing his feelings at the event, BJP MLA Krishnendu Mukherjee became emotional. He stated that in his long and colorful life, many joyous moments have arrived, and he has participated in numerous events. However, the joy of having the privilege to get rakhis tied by the sisters of the Kinnar community in this Rakhi Bandhan festival and receiving their heartfelt blessings is truly unique and impossible to express in words.
With a tone of deep regret, he said that this Kinnar community has been neglected in various ways for a long time in our society and has often been looked down upon. Yet, during various auspicious works, religious festivals, or housewarming ceremonies in our society, people consider their presence and blessings as supreme good fortune and an auspicious sign. However, due to societal narrow-mindedness, discriminatory behavior is meted out to them again once the ceremonies are over, which is extremely unfortunate. A radical change in this mindset is the need of the hour today.
The MLA further strongly stated that the Kinnar community is also an integral part of our society. True development or completeness of society is impossible by excluding them. Therefore, no kind of bias or discriminatory behavior should be directed towards them. Instead, every conscious citizen should stand beside the people of the Kinnar community with due respect, genuine love, and a perspective of equality.
Representatives of the Kinnar community present at the event lavishly praised the MLA's progressive and sensitive remarks. Speaking to the media, Sunita Mallick, a prominent member of the Kinnar community, said that to strengthen the concepts of mutual respect and equality in society, such initiatives at the political and social levels are extremely timely and important. Such sincere arrangements manifoldly boost the self-confidence and morale of the Kinnar community.
All in all, this special and exceptional arrangement of Rakhi Bandhan took the traditional sacred relationship of brother and sister to a new height. At the same time, it conveyed a strong message of social inclusion and equality to the members of society. This event proved once again that mutual respect, love, the feelings of loved ones, and human relationships can never be bound within the confines of any caste, religion, community, or narrow social identity. Thus, this event in Asansol remained an exemplary precedent for people from other strata of society as well. Prominent personalities believe that such social initiatives should be taken more frequently in the future too.
