Locals protest by stopping work at BCCL's open mouth coal mine under the Asansol assembly constituency. Locals claim that a contract company has got permission to lift coal for the time being, but that company is not hiring local people but by bringing in foreign workers to do the work, hence today they stop the work for a moment and protest in the coal mine demanding employment. On this day, the protesters claim that earlier they were working there due to the coal lifting contract company. At present, the organizations which have got coal mining permit will have to employ local people. Regarding this issue, Damagadiya Coal Mining Project Officer Debashish Chakraborty said that the mining coal mining mine was closed for a long time and now the mine has started. RA Mining has got coal mining permit for lifting. They have protested and they have demanded as local, seven of them have been employed and some more people will be hired once the work starts completely. But they have stopped the mining work in the meantime. BCCL and Coal Lifting Company are incurring losses.
