Asansol: Despite numerous awareness campaigns regarding road safety, accidents continue to occur every day across the state. However, an incident serving as a major lesson has now taken place in Asansol, where a bank employee miraculously survived a horrific road accident solely because he was wearing a helmet correctly. Despite being trapped under a four-wheeler along with his motorcycle following a powerful collision, he cheated death thanks to the helmet on his head.
The incident took place on Saturday morning in the bustling BNR More area of Asansol. According to police and local sources, the injured bank employee is Amit Prasad (37). He is a resident of the Ismail area in Asansol and works at the Punjab National Bank (PNB). Like every other day, Amit set off for duty on his motorcycle on Saturday morning. However, as he approached BNR More, a four-wheeler rammed into his motorcycle.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the car directly rode over the bike. This crushed the motorcycle, and Amit Prasad became badly trapped underneath the vehicle. Immediately after the accident, intense panic and commotion gripped the busy street.
As soon as the accident occurred, local residents and pedestrians rushed to the spot. Wasting no time, the locals took prompt initiative to rescue the severely injured Amit from beneath the vehicle. Traffic police personnel on duty at BNR More at that time also rushed forward. Through the joint efforts of the locals and the police, the injured Amit Prasad was swiftly rushed to the hospital. After initial treatment, doctors stated that although he sustained multiple injuries on his body, having a helmet on his head saved him from major brain trauma. Currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, his condition is reported to be out of danger.
Recounting the horrifying experience, an eyewitness Sitaram Verma said, "I witnessed the entire incident with my own eyes. Following the collision, the four-wheeler had driven directly over the bike rider. Looking at the scene, it seemed certain that a major fatality had occurred. But Amit was wearing a helmet. Because he had the helmet on his head, the severity of the impact was reduced. Had he not been wearing a helmet at that time, he surely would have lost his life on the spot."
Police are trying to identify the accident-causing vehicle and have initiated an investigation into the incident. This accident has once again proven the absolute necessity and importance of wearing helmets for two-wheeler riders. Traffic department officials also noted that following the state government's 'Safe Drive Save Life' campaign and wearing a properly certified helmet can save lives even from the most horrific accidents, of which this Asansol incident is a prime example.
