Fearless Bengali, World Day: On the occasion of World Earth Day, the day was celebrated in the year 2017 under the initiative of Nutrition Welfare Society. A number of eco-friendly initiatives are taken keeping this year's core message—“Our Planet, Our Power”—in mind. Keeping in mind the environment and scarcity of soil in the Mallikapkur settlement area, dragon fruit trees are planted hanging in the bamboo huts in the houses of six marginal families. As this alternative farming method is environment-friendly, it will also play a role as an economical crop in the future, the entrepreneurs believe. Apart from this, bird's nests are made by tying mud pots on tree branches across the area and water reservoirs are placed at the base of trees at various places to provide drinking water to animals and birds in extreme heat. Not only to protect the environment, but also to create awareness among the new generation, a drawing competition is organized with green volunteers from various schools. About 70 people participated. The first position was won by Pooja Choudhary of Vandaman Bharti Girls School and Arpitha of Bibekananda Girls School. The second position was taken by Rudr Bhakt of Ramashis Hindi High School and the third position was taken by Shri Moyee Bhooi of Vandaman Municipal Girls High School. The organization's editor, Pralya Majumdar, said, "This world belongs to all of us. Therefore, this initiative of ours is to ensure everyone's right to live well and convey that message to the students."
