Vishwadeep Nandi, Balurghat: In protest against the poor condition of the education system in the tribal areas of South Dinajpur district, the tribals organized a single campaign for an indefinite period in front of the District Magistrate's office. This trend started from 10 am on Tuesday and continued till afternoon as no one on behalf of the district administration sat in discussion with the agitators, it was alleged. The protesters have three demands. Immediate appointment of head teachers in tribal secondary schools of the district, upgrading of tribal junior high schools to high schools and appointment of subject-wise teachers in every tribal subject-based school. These claims have been raised for a long time but no effective action has been taken by the administration, this is the complaint of tribal singling campaign. District President of the organization, Parimal Mardi, expressed his anger from the Nagad Dharana stage at noon. He said, "We have been sitting peacefully since last ten days. But after all this time, no representative of the District Magistrate or administration has come to talk to us. We are worried about the future of the tribal students. Upgradation of Deoghar Junior High School to High School, appointment of head teacher and subject-wise teacher in every tribal school is now the need of the hour." There is a clear warning to the agitators that if their demands are not met, this trend will continue indefinitely. Anger is increasing due to the silence of the administration, say the protestors.
