Fearless Bengali: Asha workers have been protesting across the state since last December 23, putting forward various demands. On Wednesday morning, they came together and took out a protest rally in front of Rabindra Bhawan in Asansol. Editor of ASHA workers, Munju Chakkarborty said that their main demands include increasing the monthly salary to ₹ 15 thousand, providing one-time financial assistance after retirement and compensation of ₹ 5 lakh in case of death while working. They have been continuing their agitation for a long time with these demands. He further said that despite calling them for discussion at Swasthya Bhawan in Kolkata on 21st January, the police administration, under the instructions of the government, carried out atrocities against them. This movement has been further strengthened by protesting against this incident and demanding accountability of the culprits. Clear statement of ASHA workers, as long as the government does not accept their just demands, their work and agitation will continue.
