Earlier, there was a huge entrance gate written “City of Brotherhood”, which carried the message of cultural unity and brotherhood of the city. Later, during the tenure of Trinamool Congress government, the old structure was replaced and a new entrance was constructed in the theme of “Bishwa Bangala”. On top of it is placed the “বিশ্ব বাংলা” globe, which was known as the branding and identity symbol of the state government. When the work of removing the globe started on Tuesday, a crowd of local residents and pedestrians gathered at the spot. Many recorded the entire incident on mobile phones. Various discussions have started in political circles regarding this change. According to some, this is an attempt by the new government to highlight its own identity. According to others, this step has been taken as part of the beautification and restructuring of the city. In this regard, BJP Yuva Morcha State Committee member and Purulia division convener Rahul Singh said, no final decision has been taken yet regarding the design and name of the new entrance. The next outline will be decided after receiving instructions from the state level. He said that the new government can create a new design of the city by giving importance to its artistic heritage, cultural identity and historical importance. Rahul Singh further said, the importance of symbols has always been special in Bengali politics. Therefore, the removal of the “World Bengali” globe is being seen not only as a structural change, but also as an indication of the change in administrative priority and political thinking after the change of government. Although till now no official response has come from the administration on this issue, but this changed form of Kali Pahari has now become the center point of discussion in entire Asansol.
