After Nandigram and Hooghly, Hanuman temple vandalized in Asansol, tension in the area

Ahead of the 2026 assembly elections, incidents of targeting of religious places are continuously coming to light in Asansol, West Bengal. After Nandigram and Hooghly, now the incident of vandalism in Hanuman temple in Asansol has created an atmosphere of tension in the area. According to the information, anti-social elements vandalized the years old Hanuman temple located at Kali Pahari in Asansol South assembly constituency. During this time, along with the idol of Hanumanji installed in the temple, the idols of Shivalinga, Lord Brahma and Vishnu were also damaged. As soon as the news of the incident spread, anger spread in the area. Along with the local people, BJP's North Assembly candidate Krishnendu Mukherjee and South Assembly candidate Agnimitra Pal reached the spot and demonstrated vigorously. BJP leaders strongly condemned the incident and alleged that Hindu religious places are being continuously targeted in the state. He said that earlier the idol of Lord Shri Ram was damaged in Nandigram and an incident of vandalism also came to light during the Harinam Kirtan program in Hooghly. BJP candidate Krishnendu Mukherjee made serious allegations against the police, saying that instead of taking action, the police was trying to replace the broken idols in the temple. He demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and warned that if action is not taken then a fierce agitation will be carried out. At present, the police is busy investigating the matter and security arrangements have been increased in the area so that the situation can be kept under control.
