" Fearless Bengali, Shyam Das, Asansol West Vandaman, Asansol: The area adjacent to Lohu Tank Morh, adjacent to Asansol's Jetty Road, is once again in trouble due to long standing business of small businessmen. In order to beautify the city, about three years ago Asansol Municipal Corporation removed small shopkeepers from that area. At that time, although the Municipal Corporation had promised to provide the shop at an alternative place, it has not been implemented till date, it is alleged. Traders claim, out of total 41 traders, 40 people are still unable to find alternative shops. However, a businessman has been given permission to run a nursery in the same area. Angry businessmen joined the protest on Thursday alleging this discrimination. During the protests, incidents of vandalism in the municipal park also took place. INTTU leader Raju Aluwalia, present at the spot, said, “The corporation evicted small traders with the promise that they would be given alternative shops. But in reality everyone except one is deprived. A capitalist has been allowed to run a nursery here—this is blatant discrimination.” He further said, “If a park is really to be built here, it would not only have plants, there should also be play facilities for children. But there is no such structure here. “Rather, the legitimate claims of the traders have been ignored.” Raju Aluwoliyar alleges that there is financial corruption behind allowing only one businessman to run the nursery. He said, “The corporation cannot behave in such a biased manner. The anger of the businessmen who have been evicted is completely logical.” The situation came under control after the incident created tension in the area. But the traders clearly stated that their agitation will continue until their demands are met.
