The temporary workers of Asansol District Hospital have withdrawn their sit-in demonstration demanding a pay hike and permanency, following an assurance from the superintendent to look into their demands and resolve the issue.

Fearless Bengali, Asansol, 1 July: 37 people of temporary workers of Asansol District Hospital joined the protest by keeping their work closed since Wednesday morning, demanding increase in salary, regularization and providing identity card. They protested in front of the emergency department of the hospital, holding placards containing their demands. The protesters allege that for a long time they have been working for a daily wage of only Rs 150 on the basis of "no work, no pay". These employees, working in various departments including hospital housekeeping, have been providing hospital services since the Corona period. According to hospital sources, they are given daily wages through Patient Welfare Society (RKS). Protesting workers Sayan Das and Jharna Bauri said that it is impossible to run a family with a daily wage of Rs 150 at the current market rate. Despite repeated demands for increase in salary, permanent appointment and identity card, there was no solution. On the contrary, they have been humiliated and they complain. He said that he was forced to stop work on this day and join the movement. At 5:30 in the afternoon, under the direction of Nagad Hospital Superintendent Dr. Nikhil Chandra Das, Assistant Superintendent Kankan Rai held a meeting with the agitating workers. At the meeting, they are advised to return to work and submit all their claims in writing and are assured that the claims will be considered seriously. After this the agitators called off their protest for the time being and joined the work. Sayan Das said, out of respect for the assurance given by the hospital authorities, he has returned to work for the time being. If the demands are not implemented in future, a decision will be taken regarding the next program. Regarding this, hospital superintendent Dr. Nikhil Chandra Das said, "The whole matter has been resolved. There was some minor problem. It has been resolved through discussion."
