Own Correspondent, Asansol: The Detective Department (DD) of Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate and Kalyaneshwari Outpost Police achieved a major success in a joint operation early Friday morning. Acting on confidential information, a raid was conducted in the Police Garden area adjacent to Kalyaneshwari Left Bank, leading to the recovery of 104 kg of cannabis.
Police sources revealed that specific intelligence indicated a large quantity of cannabis was being smuggled into West Bengal from Jharkhand via a four-wheeler. As soon as the raid commenced, the driver, upon noticing the police presence, abandoned the vehicle and fled.
Upon searching the abandoned car, police recovered 104 kg of cannabis packed in 100 packets. The confiscated vehicle was brand new and had no number plates attached.
Preliminary police investigations suggest this is the work of an organized drug smuggling racket. An investigation has been launched to determine where such a large quantity of cannabis was being smuggled and who is involved. Efforts are underway to identify the vehicle's ownership while searches continue for the absconding driver and other members of the smuggling syndicate.
Police stated that investigations into the entire incident are ongoing, and arrests of those involved in this racket are expected soon.
