Nirbhik Bangla, Asansol: To ensure women's safety and maintain law and order during the upcoming festive season, the 'Durga Suraksha Squad' force was officially inaugurated under the initiative of the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate. The journey of this innovative and special force began with a green flag-off at a special event held at Asansol's historic Sarat Manch on Monday.
Present at the inaugural ceremony were Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Agnimitra Paul, Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate Police Commissioner Dr. Pranav Kumar, Paschim Bardhaman District Magistrate S. Ponnabalam, Asansol Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dilip Mishra, along with several high-ranking police officials and dignitaries of the commissionerate.
According to police sources, this special squad has been formed keeping in mind the shopping crowds in the city and adjacent areas during Durga Puja and festive days, as well as the safety of visitors at the pandals. The main objective of this force is particularly to ensure women's safety, prevent eve-teasing, and take prompt action in any emergency situation. Equipped with modern weapons, rapid communication means, and patrolling-friendly vehicles, this Durga Suraksha Squad will remain ready. Members of this force will keep a vigil at every important intersection, shopping mall, bus stand, and puja pandal in the city.
From the event stage itself, three police stations under the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate were awarded for administrative excellence and maintaining cleanliness within the station premises. Special honors and certificates were handed over to the Officers-in-Charge of Andal, Jamuria, and Pandabeswar police stations as the best and cleanest police stations. The administrative officials present praised this people-friendly initiative of the police and the cleanliness drive of the police stations.
