In a major breakthrough against the drug racket in Asansol, the Detective Department of the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC) achieved significant success. Acting on a specific tip-off received from a confidential source, a raid was conducted near the old Durand Cinema Hall adjacent to the Asansol bus stand, where a man was intercepted and arrested red-handed. Investigators recovered nearly 300 grams of banned brown sugar from the possession of the accused, the estimated value of which is over lakhs of rupees in the international market.
During the investigation, sensational information came to light. It was revealed that the arrested individual is not just any ordinary smuggler, but the father of a drug dealer who was arrested by the ADPC just three days ago. This means the father and son were running a large drug gang or network across the area. Following the arrest of his son, and after interrogating him, detectives obtained crucial leads regarding how far the roots of this syndicate extended. It was based on these very leads that the operation succeeded.
The police administration has launched a special campaign to protect the youth of the Asansol-Durgapur industrial belt from the clutches of drugs and to completely uproot the illicit drug trade. Officials of the Detective Department stated that they are investigating where the recovered brown sugar was sourced from and to whom it was intended to be delivered. The scope of the investigation is being widened to completely dismantle this international or interstate supply chain and to identify the masterminds behind the racket.
