Nirbhik Bangla, Andal: Emerging students of the area took a hands-on and flawless lesson on how the country's highest legislative body, the Parliament, operates and functions. On Tuesday, a block-level student parliament competition was held with great enthusiasm and excitement at the traditional Khandra High School in Andal block. As part of this unique initiative, a 'Mock Parliament' session was organized, where students participated in parliamentary debates by acting as various public representatives and ministers.
Centering around the mock parliament session, there was widespread excitement among the students since morning. How questions would be raised, how government ministers would answer them, or how the role of the speaker would be performed—everything featured meticulous imitation and seriousness. Alongside this main attraction, a quiz competition on parliamentary democracy and the constitution, extempore speech, and essay writing competitions were also organized to foster the intellectual and mental development of the students.
About 270 enthusiastic students from around eight different schools in Andal block participated in this year's competition, leaving a mark of their talent. Present at this platform for showcasing the talent of young politicians and speakers were Andal Block Joint BDO Kamlesh Mahanti, along with distinguished teachers from various schools and board representatives. The guests profusely praised the participating students and commended their efforts.
Shashwati Sarkar, the headmistress of Khandra High School and the organizer of the event, said that the role of the parliament is extremely crucial in the governance of the country. In the days to come, the future citizens of this country will steer the nation. Therefore, such competitions are organized to build a clear, practical idea among students about how the parliament works, the law-making process, and various complex yet important aspects of parliamentary democracy.
According to her, such programs do not keep studies restricted within the boundaries of textbooks; rather, they play a very significant role in developing tolerance, democratic values, and a future leadership mindset among students. She expressed hope that the students who have successfully passed this block-level competition and proven their excellence will get the opportunity to participate in a bigger platform, namely the subdivision-level competition, in the near future. All in all, this student parliament competition in Andal opened a new horizon in the minds of the students.
